Judges in the former British Honduras are losing their wigs.

The white wig in Belize’s high courts, to many observers it seems one of the most jarring vestiges of colonialism, but owing mostly to Commonwealth tradition its use has persisted. But no more. When the Supreme Court open its new legal year on Monday, the wigs will be gone.

umbre33.jpg Parents want the state to prosecute those who created a fake online ‘friend’ that led to their daughter’s suicide.

The girl’s mother, Tina Meier, said she doesn’t think anyone involved intended for her daughter to kill herself.
“But when adults are involved and continue to screw with a 13-year-old, with or without mental problems, it is absolutely vile.

umbre33.jpg I lost my voice! (My throat was just a little scratchy one day. By the next afternoon, I couldn’t talk.)

I’m preparing for my first felony trial in mid-September. And I couldn’t go see my client for two weeks because I couldn’t speak. :(

Fortunately, I’m better now. It was pretty scary, though, because I’ve never had laryngitis before. I really wish my doctor had said something more reassuring than just, “Your voice will probably come back.”

Man pummels ‘vampire’ peacock

A restaurant worker says the man grabbed the bird by the neck, hurled it to the ground and started stomping it. She says when he was asked what he was doing, he responded, “‘I’m killing a vampire!”‘
